Exploring the Soul of East Asia
Welcome to the Institute for East Asian Religions & Cultures (IEARC) at Daejin University.
East Asia is the cradle of some of the world’s most profound spiritual traditions—Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism, Shamanism, and an ever-evolving landscape of new religious movements. For millennia, these traditions have been the invisible threads weaving together the languages, arts, ethics, and social structures of billions across Korea, China, Japan, Vietnam, and beyond.
Director, Institute for East Asian Religions & Cultures (IEARC)
At IEARC, our mission is to explore this “Soul of East Asia” with academic integrity and an open mind. We believe that the study of religion transcends personal faith; it is a vital lens through which we understand history, politics, and the very essence of human identity. In our increasingly interconnected world, a deep understanding of East Asia’s diverse religious heritage has never been more critical.
Unlike broader humanities centers, IEARC is dedicated exclusively to the specialized study of East Asian religions and cultures. While we are rooted in Korea, our gaze is firmly fixed on the global stage. We actively foster dialogue between international scholars and institutions to bridge cultural divides and produce research that resonates far beyond the walls of the academy.
Through our publications, international conferences, and public education programs, we strive to bring East Asia’s rich spiritual heritage to life for scholars and the general public alike. We invite you to join us in this journey of discovery and dialogue.
Thank you.
